Book Review: Bi-Partisan by Dallas Smith

Congressman Jamie Montgomery knows running from re-election will be difficult, he's a young, single man who is trying to win a redrawn district. When his friend, and media manager, Mina convinces him to go out and not think about the election he ends up having a one night stand that confirms, to him, he is bisexual.

The issue is he is not out to anyone else and someone took photos of him while he was leaving the club with Adrian, the man he saw across the bar and proves to him discretion might not matter.

After spending one night together, Jamie can't stop thinking about Adrian, but when he learns that he has been outed and his opponent is using it against him, his team comes up with a plan.

Jamie and Adrian will 'fake' date until the end of the election, so no one things Jamie is no loyal and to hopefully keep control of the situation. Adrian isn't super ready for the spotlight, he doesn't want it, but if it can help bring eyes to helping animals in the DC area he is in. He works as a veterinarian, along with helping a shelter that doesn't have the funding it needs. When Jamie agrees to help with that in exchange, it feels like a deal he can't pass up.

The more they keep up the charade, the less it feels like the dating is 'fake', as they start to seek each other out more and more, but neither is ready for a relationship, or at least they say so. But why does Adrian find himself traveling to NC to surprise Jamie, or Jamie going over to Adrian's after a bad day.

This book is really adorable. I like that from the beginning you can sense the feels Jamie and Adrian have for each other, and outside of 'being outed', everyone around Jamie is really open to who he is and who he is dating. There isn't much drama, outside of the election, when its comes to him being bisexual. Adrian and Jamie also care deeply for each other and I liked how that played on the the page, even when it was 'fake'. They both have really strong support systems as well with their friends who know about the situation and that is lovely to see as well. A bonus point for Adrian having two lovely cats who are kind of always in the way. We love that. They are little chaos beings and I love them dearly throughout the book.

Adrian and Jamie were both characters I loved instantly as well. Jamie dreams of making a difference, cares deeply for his hometown and state, and wants to shake things up in his career. Adrian is caring for animals and their owners, he wants to treat them all with care and kindness and you can really sense that. They both make quite the team, with each of them learning to manage their own anxieties and worries while helping the other through theirs.

This book was a 4/5 star read for me, and is out June 9, 2024!

Make sure to check it out!
