Cash Delgado has a good life in Ridley Falls. She has Joyce’s Bar, where she manages a familiar group of regulars and emcees the ever-popular Karaoke Thursday. She has her six-year-old daughter, Parker, whose spunky attitude always keeps life interesting.
And she has her best friend, Inez O’Conner, who improves Cash’s sometimes overly responsible outlook with one full of joy and potential.
But when Chase Staunton comes back to town, a former manager of Joyce's that Cash had a brief fling with. Chase invites Cash to dinner, and after pushing from Inez she agrees. It's at dinner that Chase tells Cash the real reason he's in town, to scope it out a place for a franchise of the place he is working at in Seattle.
Cash is determined to stop him, her love for Joyce's and the people that she sees there. But as she tries to plan out how to save Joyce's while also trying to figure out why, even after almost hooking up with Chase, she is having dreams about Inez in lingerie. As she and Inez plan a karaoke party to raise money for the renovations at Joyce's, Cash tries to figure out if her feelings for her best friend are real or not.
One of the best parts about this book was Cash's daughter Parker, who is a very funny, very opiniated 6 year old. Parker made a lot of the moments of the story better with her humor and mispronunciation of words. Cash and Inez's relationship is also really well written, they already start out as very close best friends, with Inez stepping in to help whenever Cash needs. Inez also has a very funny grandmother, and lives on a farm with donkeys.
Overall, I really enjoyed the journey Cash took throughout the book, finding herself and fighting for the things she loves. I also like how the characters are a bit older too, showing the journey to figure yourself out never really ends. Cash and Inez both have a lot of moments throughout the book I found really heartwarming, and the way they work together and bring the town together is really lovely.
Also, this book does have mentions of characters from Sammy Espinoza's Last Review in it! You don't need to read the other, but I like the cross over.
A 4 out of 5 star read for me!
