Book Review: Gwen and Art Are Not in Love

Being betrothed to someone you hate and are forced to spend the summer with them?

Definitely inconvenient.

When you are both in love with someone else?

Time for a pact.

Gwendoline is the princess of Camelot and finds herself betrothed to Arthur, a descendent of the famous King Arthur of Camelot. They are forced together during a summer tournament by their parents to fall in love, but instead find themselves keeping each other secrets and falling for other people.

Gwen is swept off her feet by a knight competing in the tournament, who happens to be the only female knight in the kingdom.

Arthur knows there are rumors about him spreading around the kingdom and instead of fighting them he lets people believe them, which covers for the fact that he would rather sneak off an make out with boys in the hallway.

When Art and Gwen figure out each other's secrets, they decide to pretend to be getting along and keep their secret lives hidden from those around them. As this goes on, Art finds himself falling for a member of the royal family, it's just not Gwen but her older brother Gabriel. Now, Art and Gwen are determined to find a way to live as their authentic selves, and end up finding letters from the one and only King Arthur to his knight, Lancelot.

These letters will cause controversy in the kingdom, but could allow Art and Gabriel to be together without shame. So why not let the people see who their hero actually was?

This book was a wild ride, within the last 100 pages I was unable to put the book down. It went from romantic shenanigans, to a battle that puts all the characters at risk. The book ends in lovely way that shows found family and how love can work through even the craziest of events.

As a fan of many Arthurian books, this one was a fun twist on the events, especially since the characters are living in the shadow of what happened before. There is sword-fighting, potential coups and characters who are sneaking look when they think others aren't looking.

A 4/5 star read for me for sure, and I'm excited to get a final version when the book comes out later this year.

Gwen and Art Are Not in Love comes out November 28, 2023.
