Book Review: Happy Place by Emily Henry

Harriet is going to her happy place with her best friends, what she didn't expect was to see her ex-fiancé.

Harriet is struggling with her job, her happiness and the fallout of her breakup she never told her best friends about.

Now she is going to visit her 'happy place', a cabin she and her friends have been going to for the past 10 years. Only this year, she is newly single and hasn't told her friends about the breakup.

Until she gets there and is surprised by not only the biggest room in the house, but her ex-fiancé, who broke up with her 5 months ago.

They decide to keep their breakup secret, just for the week, in order to not ruin their last year at the house, as well as their friends last minute surprise wedding. As they navigate their new 'relationship' Wyn and Harriet start to figure out that maybe things aren't as over as they thought.

I am a huge fan of Emily Henry's books and this one is definitely just as good as the rest. My favorite by far is 'Book Lovers' but it is really hard to ignore a love story about authors.

I loved the banter between Wyn and Harriet and honestly the fact that once they chose to be honest, it felt refreshing. Though I'm not usually a fan of 'lets keep secrets' I didn't find myself too aggravated with it in this book. Every character in the group seemed to have something they were trying to share without ruining it for the group, and I think once everyone aired it out the story improved. I also really enjoyed the sort of 'flashback' chapters, that looked into not only Harriet and Wyn's relationship but the friendship the girls had before their partners were apart of it.

There is also a theme/discussion with a few of the characters about how different family dynamics effect how they live as adults, and the expectations they hold for themselves and others. I really enjoyed the openness of these conversations as well as the comparisons between the families of the main group.

Overall, I definitely recommend this book for someone who needs something easy and cozy. There is just enough drama to make it fun, but it feels like a hug by the end, with a main character who learns a lot about herself and what she wants in life.

A fun read that gets a solid 4/5 stars from me!
