When a portrait artist loses her ability to see faces all hope seems lost, right?
Sadie Montgomery is an artist, and though she is living in her studio with her dog, and seemingly not making much money, she has entered a contest that could potentially jump start her career.
On the same day she learns she is one of the finalists in a portrait competition is the same day a handsome stranger pays for her wine and gives her flowers. It is also the same day she passes out and learns she has an anomaly on her brain and needs surgery.
After surgery, she thinks everything is going fine, until she learns that she can no longer see faces. A temporary side effect of the surgery that they say should go away in a few weeks. Hopefully.
Sadie finds herself going through a mix of emotions. She tries to learn how to see people in her every day life, while also figuring out if its even worth entering the competition anymore. With her family seemingly haunting her and her situation seeming to get worse. Sadie falls for the 'gait' of a veterinarian, while also making friends with a man in her building. She tries to hide her face blindness from them, but finds its harder and harder to tell people apart when she cannot see who they are.
This book as a dog (that nothing bad happens to, no worries), a girl just trying to make her way in less-than-ideal circumstances, and two mystery boys who you get a slightly different point of view of (and I promise its not a love triangle).
I really enjoyed this book, giving it 4 out of 5 stars after reading. I also think I enjoyed this more than Katherine Center's other book, The Bodyguard, which I read last year. She does have a long list of books she has published, and after only reading two I would be interested to see what the others are like.
Have you read any of Katherine Center's books? Which did you like? Let me know!
Hello Stranger comes out July 11, 2023.
