Book Review: My Fair Brady by Brian D. Kennedy

Wade knows he is a star, but is he also too self absorbed?

My Fair Brady by Brain D. Kennedy is his sophomore novel, a young adult rom-com that is a fun play on My Fair Lady.

Wade Westmore is used to being in the spotlight. He knows he is perfect for the lead male role in the last musical of his high school career. When the role ends up going to his ex-boyfriend, Reese, Wade isn't sure what to do. Reese had broken up with him for being too self absorbed.

Sophomore Elijah Brady is used to being overlooked, but ends up joining the crew of the musical to try to get closer to his crush.

When Elijah and Wade have a literal run in backstage, Elijah asks Wade to help him become more confident. Wade sees this as the perfect chance to prove to his ex he is not self-absorbed. Wade starts to help Elijah, bringing him shopping for new clothes, working on giving him an 'alter-ego' to feel more confident in, and bringing him to parties he never would have gone to.

When Brady (Elijah) starts to gain the attention of not only his crush, but of Wade's ex, Wade is unsure how to handle it. When Brady is asked to prom by Reese, Wade is confused on if he should be happy with his work or upset.

This book was a really fun young adult rom-com, with many theater jokes and a lot of theater-kid love. I really enjoyed Elijah's growth throughout the novel. Wade also shows a lot of growth, with having him start to understand how to be the best he can be without being the center of attention.

Overall, I think this book is a really great young adult novel about growth, and learning to coming out of your shell and learning more about who you are.

This was a 4 out of 5 star read for me!
