Book Review: Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa

A romance author who has never been in love?

Sophie is a romance writer, suffering from writers block, who realizes something really important. She's never been in love.

Dash is a former actor, who after a struggle with addiction is trying to find a new path in life, without telling his family.

As they both struggle, they also work to help each other find their way to their dream.

I received this book at an ARC from NetGalley and honestly, I wish I liked it more.

On the surface, there was a lot that was appealing to me. An author main character, some 'famous' friends. the struggle of writers block. It felt right.

But something was a miss for me, but I want to review the books that were misses too, because there is someone out there for this book.

I think these characters had too many secrets, from themselves and others around them, which made connecting with them really hard. Also there was a big push of having TikTok brought up in the story, and have it impact the story and I truly don't think I'm ready for that to take over my reading life.

Not everything was bad though, there were a few things I did enjoy with the story. I loved the idea of interviewing exes to figure out what went wrong and why there was no love, though wish it was no for Tiktok. I liked that Dash wanted to be his authentic self, but also ending up having a hard time learning to manage through the sober world but was forgiven for the relapse. I also enjoyed that Sophie's 'failed' second book was about a meteorologist and a storm chaser, which gave me quite the laugh.

This book is a quick and easy read, and honestly if you need something to just 'cleanse the palate' after reading something more intense, it would fill that void perfectly.

A solid 3 stars for me.

This book is expected to be published November 14,2023.
