At the beginning of this month I was a little worried I'd still be struggling my way through Rhythm of War, but alas we got a few more books under our belt. All were a little bit different, some sci-fi fantasy, a comic book or two, and a few romantic comedies. I think sometimes I don't read as much as I wish I could, getting distracted by life and other things. I have some fun ARCs waiting for me to start in August! Without further ado, here are my July reads!
Rhythm of War ( The Stormlight Archives 4) by Brandon Sanderson
When I tell you this book took me MONTHS to finish, and finally I decided I was going to do it, no distractions. Rhythm of War is the 4th book in the Stormlight Archives, a high fantasy series by Brandon Sanderson.
This book is THICC and we survived it, barely. This continues to follow the story of the people on Roshar and their fight against the people who inhabit that world. We know have the Knights Radiant and more spren to follow along with as well.
Honestly, I super recommend this series, but its definitely a journey. The first book is The Way of Kings, and trust me, you will want it in ebook form so it's not like lifting a weight every time you try to read. Now, we wait with everyone else for the next one.
Twelfth Grade Night by Molly Horton Booth
As a fun little palate cleanser after RoW, I decided to delve into a graphic novel that became available to me through the library. (look at me using the library).
Vi transferred to Arden High to get a fresh start and escape the hell of uniform skirts. But she is there without her twin, who is attending their old school.
As Vi navigates her way through the new school, she finds herself being crushed on by one of the most popular girls in the school, all while her crush is pursuing the same girl. While Vi falls Orsino, she also finds out a little bit more about herself and who she wants to me.
Overall, a really cute story with great art.
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
I just really, really loved this book, which by the time this blog comes out should have a whole review dedicated to it.
Clementine is trying to navigate her life after the loss of her aunt, who she went on many adventures with. Now, she is working as a publicist for a publisher who is pursing one of the hottest chefs in NYC. But when they meet, Clementine learns that her aunt's magical apartment has been bringing her into his life...just seven years in the past.
Now Clementine is trying to navigate her professional life, while also trying to figure out how to mend a relationship that was seven years in the making. Will now be the perfect time? Or has he moved on since she disappeared for his life in the past.
Thieves' Gambit by Kayvion Lewis
Thieves' Gambit is a young adult novel that is scheduled to be published later this year. It follows teenage-thief Ross Quest, as she struggles with wanting a normal life and going on adventures with her thief mother.
When her mother is kidnapped during a mission gone wrong, Ross decides to join to Thieves' Gambit competition, where multiple teenaged thieves will compete for any 'wish' they want.
Ross now has to figure out if she can win this alone, and save her mother, or if she needs break the number one rule of being a Quest. 'Don't trust anyone without the name Quest'. Overall, a fast-paced and interesting novel.
The Do-Over by Lynn Painter
The Do-Over follows Emilie Hornsby, who is planning on having the perfect Valentine's Day with her boyfriend Josh.
Except, one the way to school she rear-ends the truck of a classmate, spends most of the day hoping to see Josh, and then finds Josh kissing another girl in his car. After rushing out of school and heading to the comfort of her grandma's house, Emilie is ready for the day to be over.
That is until she wakes up the next morning and is back in her own room, and the calendar says Feb 14 again. This book is a super fun take on that 'groundhog' day trope, with the day repeating until she changes something (and maybe falls for her cute savior).
Sheets by Brenna Thummler
This graphic novel follows Marjorie Glatt, who is running her family's laundry mat while her father deals with the passing of her mother. She struggles through high school only to go to work with unforgiving customers. When a man comes in ready to buy the property and ruin everything she has built, she starts to find herself falling for his schemes.
At the same time Wendell the Ghost has come to the human world, looking for adventure and answers. He finds himself caught in the laundry mat and decides to try to help Marjorie (poorly).
When Wendell and Marjorie finally decide to work together, it may change both of their lives, and give them a friendship they could never imagine.
Planes, Trains and all the Feels by Livy Hart
This book can best be described as an insanely cute road trip story that features many romance tropes I love.
First, you have the sunshine Cassidy, meeting the grumpy Luke after he steals her parking spot, only to end up on the same plane to California. That is until they are forced to land in Kansas City. They both have important tasks waiting for them in Cali, and are desperate to get there as quickly as possible. But when there is only one rental car left, they decide to road trip together, to save money and time.
After a series of less than fortunate events, the two start to learn more about each other and their goals, making their way across the southwest US. A really adorable book, that is definitely more for an 18+ audience.
Sinner's Isle by Angela Montoya
Not going to lie, I didn't expect to finish this one before the end of the month, but here we are.
Sinner's Isle is a debut novel by Angel Montoya that will be coming out later this year. It follows Rosalinda, a girl with powers who has been living on Sinner's Isle with the other majestics for much of her life.
When her, and her best friend Juana, attempt to flee they are caught, with Juana being held captative to keep Rosa under control. At the same time, Mariano shows up on the island after escaping the sinking of his father's ship. Determined to steal a ship and leave, Mariano and Rosa come up with plan to free both of them from the things holding them hostage.
