My Favorites: Fall Out Boy Part 1

Now, I know not everyone is going to have the same music opinions are me but as stated in other music-based blogs, I totally get that. But the 13-14 year old version of myself that lives deep inside my brain is just too excited about the new Fall Out Boy singles to not discuss what some of my favorite Fall Out Boy songs have been over the years. Especially since they are currently releasing new song, performing again, and have an album coming out in March. My inner-emo child is thriving and I want to share it with the world.

If you've known me for long enough you'll already know that I own every Fall Out Boy album and tend to have a decent group of favorites from each. Though, I will always stand by the Infinity on High is one of the best albums to exist. I've never really gone through the process of explaining why I like the songs I do, so it feels right to do it here before the new albums comes out. So, here is my very cut down list of favorite songs from each album.

Take This Your Grave - Chicago is so Two Years Ago

Take This to Your Grave was actually the first album I got, even though at the time From Under A Cork Tree was already out. I was probably 14 and it was love at first listen. I have always adored this song, especially when missing my hometown/city. Best line?

"There's a light on in Chicago, and I know I should be home.'"

From Under A Cork Tree - Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year

This album was probably the hardest to chose ONE song from. I love this album from front to back and still listen to it constantly. I know Sugar We're Going Down and Dance, Dance are also on this album, but I feel like this song deserves some love too. It's catchy but also shows they know that their clever lyrics are meaning a lot to people. Best line?

"I'll keep singing this lie if you keep believing it."

Infinity on High - Hum Hallelujah

I'm sure this pick will surprise the people who've known me the longest, since Thanks for the Memories made me actively sob the first time I ever say Fall Out Boy in concert. And lets be real, I still adore that song and will continue to scream-sing it in my car. I just think the lyrics and beat of this song are something I've come to understand and appreciate more since beginning to learn more about guitar as a whole. Best lyric?

"I could write it better than you ever felt it."

Folie a Deux - The (Shipped) Gold Standard

I'm not really sure when this one became my favorite on the album, when it first came out there were definitely others but I guess growing up some of these lyrics stood out more. Now this was the last album before they went on hiatus, so I tended to listen to it a lot hoping for a sign they'd be back (oops). Though a solid album with some slow and sad and then some screamy (?!) I just really like the lyrics in this song at almost 30, I'm not sure 18 year old me would agree. Best lyric?

"You can only blame your problems on the world for so long, before it all becomes the same old song."

Now, as Fall Out Boy did, I will end this section here. I feel like doing pre and post hiatus will be best to keep the blog short. So, stay turned for part 2!
