My Tops Songs of 2023

So, I always preference this with 'The Phoenix' by Fall Out Boy is always kind of a freebie for me, since I use it when changing my insulin pump sites/sensors site each week so we'll talk about the song that shows up 6th instead. Also, I don't own the rights to any of the songs.

Just Pretend - Bad Omens

We know I have stated multiple times I love Bad Omens, they were my top artist for the year and honestly I love them dearly. Though I am shocked this song is the number 1, since I listened to Death of Peace of Mind a lot, I'm not super shocked. This song is just really powerful, and something I have started to learn on guitar. The lyrics are really well done, and the vibes of the song is both sad somehow pretty? Honestly, will still be listening to this song obsessively. It is somehow a love song while also being about longing and I just really, really enjoy it.

Limits - Bad Omens

Oh look who is back, Bad Omens yet again, with a song off an older album. (when Noah had much longer hair). This song is one of the first I heard by the band, and overall a really powerful message aboud overcoming the limits people set for you. It is definitely good pump up song before sports, or just when a little mad at the world. Overall, a slightly different vibe than the first song, but also still as powerful and means as much to me overall. It was really fun to see the band live this year and be able to see both songs performed live.

Like a Villain - Bad Omens

I swear this is the last Bad Omens song to show up on this list, I think. I absolutely adore this song, I think it connects with a lot of the books I read and works well when thinking of morally grey characters I have come to love. It is between this song and Death of Peace of Mind are some of my favorites by Bad Omens. One of the best parts of this song to me is the lyrics.

Dial Tone - Catch Your Breath

I am pretty shocked this song ended up so high on my list. I know I listened to it a lot, but to break the top 5 is pretty impressive, especially when you aren't Bad Omens. This song is definitely emotional, with more of a break up vibe than the others on the list. Which is super funny for someone who didn't go through any of that this year. I'm excited to listen to more Catch Your Breath in the next year since I really like the tones and instrumentals of this song.

Neon Grave - Dayseeker

Dayseeker is a new band to me, mostly because of Siriusxm Octane and they toured with Bad Omens (shocker). This song is so good, with a powerful meaning. The singer's father passed away, and this is the song he wrote in response. It is a moving song, with really strong vocals. This song led me into looking more into Dayseeker overall and I'm excited to see what they come up with next. They are also high on my list of artists I want to see in the next year if possible.

There is definitely some disconnect between the top songs, outside of Bad Omens, there are a few artists that showed up without their songs showing up on the top list. I was shocked to see Taylor Swift on there, but I did listen to her a lot to prep for the concert. Waterparks and I Prevail are always top bands for me as well. I'm hoping to see I Prevail in 2024, finally. Fall Out Boy will always show up, similiarly to why The Phoenix is always on the list, but I do listen to them a lot.

Now for the genre, Broadway, which doesn't connect to pretty much everything else on the list, but is just as accurate. I listened to a lot of Broadway last year, and will continue to as I plan another trip to see shows in NYC this coming year. Hadestown, Moulin Rouge, and Beetlejuice have definitely been some favorites of mine this year. I also have been listening to Sweeney Todd and Waitress is always a favorite some days.

Did you have any shocking things in your wrapped?

What were some of your favorite songs and artists this year?
