As some of you may, or may not, know. My full time job is being an overnight aviation meteorologist. Now, that may make you think, 'well surely she doesn't want to read science books', and in that case you'd be wrong. I love a good science-based romantic comedy, something short and fluffy and just full of nerdy goodness.
Which brings me to my next list-style blog. Books who's main characters fall within the STEM community.
No list of stem books would be complete without Ali Hazelwood, who currently has two books out, plus three short stories, and another book coming out later this year that revolve around a lovely STEM based world.
The Love Hypothesis was the first one I read, and honestly I adore this book. Olive is working for her PHD in Biology and the Adam is also a biologist. There is tension, drama and of course, love.
The other few books have engineers and astronauts and many other fun STEM fields, and my favorite part is that even though they fall in love, no one gives up their career for it. (which I complain about A LOT)
Now, as a meteorologist, it would be wrong of me to not bring up that the term 'weather girl' kills me inside a little bit. But, this book is cute and it definitely didn't disappoint.
Ari is a TV meteorologist is Seattle who is really just trying to get her life together, while also figuring out the dramatic life of her boss. She ends up working with a sports producer to figure it out and help dull down the drama in the office.
One thing this book did well was show how crazy the schedule is for a meteorologist, or really anyone who works on TV. With them having to work around barely seeing each other, or one of them having been up since some absurd time of the morning. I think it was well done.
Now this book is probably a bit of stretch for the whole 'female in STEM' thing. But, the main male character initially is in space, like with NASA, and has a hard time adjusting to being back on Earth. That is until she meets the Hallie, a party planner, who while trying to plan a wedding finds videos that Christopher sent to his ex from space.
But now that ex is getting married to someone else, and Hallie has not only watched all the videos, but started sending videos back, thinking that he will never see them.
They end up meeting and getting along, and after telling each other the truth have a fun little story that I found to be quite charming.
These are my top 3 that I've read recently for books with STEM-love, but I would like to point out that there many other books that talk about weather, and I plan to have more blogs that talk about those as well.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
I would love to chat in the comments!
(It has occurred to me that I did not have comments enabled but they are now! Leave comments please!)
Also, if you have any recommendations for books with a STEM based love story, remember I have a 'recommend me a book' tab above!
