Well friends, another month has passed. Meaning it is time for another monthly wrap up. Some of this books might have already had full reviews posts come out or one that will be coming out soon. Others were shorter, quick reads that will just be mentioned here.
Did you have any favorite books this month? Make sure to comment or recommend them to me in the 'recommend' tab!
Kill Joy by Holly Jackson
Now, this author and potential the characters will be familiar to you if you've read 'A Good Girls Guide to Murder'. (Which I highly recommend if you haven't.) This is a novella that follows Pip and friends prior to the start of the original story, when she attends a murder-mystery party at her friend's house. The events in the story end up inspiring her to pursuing the senior project she chooses in the first book of the series.
Now, I gave this 3 stars. It was a great addition to the main story, a little look at what led to Pip making some of the choices she did in the series. I liked seeing the characters in a slightly different environment, and honestly it just makes me want to recommend the OG series more.
Borrow My Heart by Kasie West
This book will in fact have (or had) an entire blog dedicated to it.
I have read over Kasie West books, and they are usually very easy to read romantic comedies with YA aged characters.
I particularly liked this one because of its discussion about social media and the impacts it can have on people.
It also has a dog and a little girl named Maggie.
3.5/5 stars.
Seven Faceless Saints by M.K. Lobb
As of writing this blog, I have just finished this book. I love it, I will be recommending it to everyone.
I mean look at that cover. *chefs kiss*
Honestly, this book is great dark fantasy following two characters who both have nothing and everything to lose. I would love to go into more detail on the plot, but fear it will be full of spoilers. So just trust me and pick this one up.
I want to re-read it immediately. I want to throw it at everyone to read and you will be hearing a lot about this book. I'm sure its own review is already up, so please check that out.
5/5 stars. No notes.
Transmogrify: 14 Fantastical Tales of Trans Magic
This story is a collection of short stories that was complied by G. Haron Davis. This collection involves having both transgender characters as well as some element of magic.
This was a really fun collection of stories that spanned a lot of different magical elements. I enjoyed each story for different reasons and loved the representation within each story. There were even some jokes and references to other magical media that got some chuckles out of me.
I did read this early as an ARC from NetGalley, the book will be published May 16, 2023. 4/5 stars. Definitely a recommend from me! This book may get its own blog in the future too!
Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score
So, did I initially pick up this book because my name was on the cover? Yes.
Did I thoroughly enjoy the story and the love interest of Silas and his sweet puppy? Yes.
I have a running joke that when my name appears in media its usually for some character that is either awful or dying, but that was not the case in this book, which made it a winner to me.
The story overall is a rom-com about a woman, Maggie, who renovates houses on Youtube but never allows herself to settle down. I thought it was cute and heartwarming. Bonus points for the characters being in their 30s, and having their lives somewhat together. The side characters in this book were also amazing. 3.5/5 stars
Ghosted by Amanda Quain
I received this book as an e-arc from NetGalley, and definitely plan on writing a blog of its own.
This book follows Hattie, who is hoping to get make it through her senior year at the school her mother is the headmistress of, while also trying to run from her past.
Then, her plans seem to be thrown out of whack when Kit Morland enters the school, obsessed with ghosts and on a scholarship. They become close after her mother assigns her as his guide to the school. This book was really cute. I enjoyed both Kit and Hattie, and the ghosts they were searching for.
It is also a re-telling of 'Northanger Abbey' by Jane Austen, which though I haven't read the original, I did really enjoy this book. 4/5 stars.
After a lot of adventures this month I'm excited to get more books read in March. Since I think I finally figured out comments, let me know below which books you read this month that you loved!
